<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKjR0IQnc_jKxk5VEi_cf_-DRnFCe4FHHH0DuU_fnvhoSKigxkD6A9DG5pqAYIE5wEyjH3m99ChWr5IeDMwr8JuiDjhUUjKhUgJWtDPujIUhKdVwe9p0A7sBU1FimdoH3HTaD-Mom7Ry5M/s1600/20080512-3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="564" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKjR0IQnc_jKxk5VEi_cf_-DRnFCe4FHHH0DuU_fnvhoSKigxkD6A9DG5pqAYIE5wEyjH3m99ChWr5IeDMwr8JuiDjhUUjKhUgJWtDPujIUhKdVwe9p0A7sBU1FimdoH3HTaD-Mom7Ry5M/s640/20080512-3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Can't remember whether or not I've shown this before. It sums up for me the illusory nature of photography - the glamour isn't glamourous, it's hard work, it needs a lot of work after the event and it's always selective, and often things are not what they seem.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">I used this image as a "key stone" within 10 images in a recent exhibit.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">....and by the way; thanks to those who have kindly left some remarks on the recent posts. These are greatly appreciated.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">"It's grim up North" is a phrase well known to softies who live in the South of England. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">The other day I took a not-very-productive photo walk around North London (which is still "South": the North of England being a terrifying place where barbarians are rumoured to live. Of course, I am joking. Some of my best friends are Northerners). </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">The photography wasn't successful because my "creative eye" wasn't functioning well.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">But I couldn't resist this scene. I took several photos inside and around but failed to capture the essence I wanted, so I've ended up with this simple record snap of "the essence of North London". I love these places. An oily, really run down place with a couple of blokes working magic on motors. They were great chaps, welcoming us in and having a laugh about photographers. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">Letty in Oz (a good cyber mate) has been bugging me to start posting again. She's right. I should be taking more pictures and showing them, but the weather has been awful for months (note the typical flat grey featureless sky that "climate change" is casting across London for many days of the year) and my attention has been diverted elsewhere. I will try harder, Letty.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Yuk!!! The first snow has fallen. For Richmond in Yorkshire this might be normal, but not in Richmond upon Thames. My garden doesn't look too inviting......but the acacia tree is always a pleasure to look at, whatever the season, and so also is the large silver birch tree further down.</span></div>

<br />
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Some of you will have noticed the absence for almost a year. It's not easy to post a good photo day after day. Other priorities intrude. But I've not been idle, and the photogrpahs are still being made, though not in the same way.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">We last saw the colours and delights of Oman (a country I grew to like very much), so it's a good idea to return with a classic shot of the City of London. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">These days I spend a lot more time in the centre rather than out in the suburb of Richmond. If this blog continues, it'll be a mix of Richmond, London and anything else that comes along. Let's see where it goes.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;"></span> </div>

<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">It's clear that the human animal loves colour. <span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I am not making many postings at the moment (good reasons, so nothing to worry about) but nevertheless I have, during this "quiet time", picked up yet another watcher. Amazing!).</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Here, again is a photo from Oman, not Richmond. Sorry. It's not tweaked. (Well only a tiny bit). This is more or less exactly as I saw it and how the camera captured it. Wonderful.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Musandam is the rocky, mountainous, area at the very northern tip of Oman which, though tiny, resembles "Norway in the sunshine", by virtue of the deep sea fiords that cut into the steeply rising mountains. Musandam forms one side of the Straights of Hormuz and Iran is only 30 miles (a 45 minute trip in a smuggler's speed boat) away across the water.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The straights are the main waterway for the giant tankers exiting from the Gulf oil fields and are the prowling ground for powerful warships of opposing navies of nervous antagonistic world powers.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">For tourists, Musandam is a place to see the remnants of very ancient lost civilisations where early man lived his primitive life in a totally different and somewhat damp climate! Today it is a dry desert. It is also a place to see Dolphins, dive to see wonderful fish, and to meet pleasant, amusing Omanis, full of fun and courtesy: a place where the men rub noses when they meet. For Westerners this is an hilarious thing to see!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br />
</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This photo catches the dawn as it rises out of the East and climbs above the rocky peaks of the Musandam mountains that are so typical of Oman.</span></div>Chuckeroonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06933397626094422959noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8674906358747778592.post-7889336860433962232012-02-25T14:18:00.000+00:002012-02-25T14:18:38.637+00:00The whole model # 5/2012<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDDJiW4l1AIkDXfkANMZjR7gbgZ4W1sTKLK9m-gHOhKqOPD41uom-LGL4txpOc5qHPDA_1T0CM2uGKoB-_0Yrpg9ZHwLWyBms0nQ5yZEUh1I0o0SIyu7mnFUJRQrY4CUlvTY3biREIvvKI/s1600/Full+model-1056522.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDDJiW4l1AIkDXfkANMZjR7gbgZ4W1sTKLK9m-gHOhKqOPD41uom-LGL4txpOc5qHPDA_1T0CM2uGKoB-_0Yrpg9ZHwLWyBms0nQ5yZEUh1I0o0SIyu7mnFUJRQrY4CUlvTY3biREIvvKI/s640/Full+model-1056522.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />

<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The legendary voyages of the real sailors of Oman were no less exotic, and the traditional dhows are still built. The only difference is a diesel engine inside a fine, seaworthy, traditionally styled wooden hull.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">The dhow yard at Sur still builds these beautiful ships. They also make wonderful models worth thousands of pounds. <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">International air travel gives more and more the opportunity to see these scenes for themselves, and magazines frequently show such pictures. Nevertheless I longed to capture such a photo for myself. <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">I've been away in Oman (again, as last year) and brought this back. There were hummingbirds in the garden and I had to be smart and get the timing right. <br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">The recent heavy fog covered Europe from England across to Norway and all the way down over France and Germany to Vienna, Austria. That's a very big cloud of fog - which is an excellent metaphore for the fumblings of European politicians failing to manage the Euro-crisis.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">No "big deals" here, but it's time to re-visit the usual scenes and show them as they are right now on certain days in November.</span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">This is the time of very low tides and the river is almost totally "switched off" by the closure of Teddington Weir to allow inspection and maintenance. <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Here's the view of the Thames opposite Petersham Meadows. <span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">I took this night shot of the Pultney Bridge in Bath which, as many of you will know, is famous for its hot water springs enjoyed by the Romans: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath,_Somerset">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bath,_Somerset</a></span><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">Nothing posted for a week: busy etc.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">Yesterday I snatched a chance to walk deeper into one of the more densely wooded areas of Richmond Park to see who was hiding there.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">The rut is over, and the stags are once again gathered in peaceful groups of "All Boys together". Fighting? What? Us? Never! We're mates!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">I almost walked past this quiet group hunkered down in the bracken, their antlers looking exactly like the fallen tree branches, and their coats the same colour as the Autumn vegetation. </span></div>Chuckeroonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06933397626094422959noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8674906358747778592.post-30795168983829479542011-11-03T16:51:00.000+00:002011-11-03T16:51:58.070+00:00After the rain in London - # 137/2011<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXqXNps8W-uP0MzWGFD8XKN3wh3M3aO3sIpULhqPjfb6Bdtyh3aXWqqn0TGFHjr88pYmFgsLAxcVGesuvu1XZTtMw15FtRcWY6WT2dtnudg8ec-PN2-virRyHiGSV79pZNuC5vy9QEERhX/s1600/Rainy+day-8265394.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="602px" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXqXNps8W-uP0MzWGFD8XKN3wh3M3aO3sIpULhqPjfb6Bdtyh3aXWqqn0TGFHjr88pYmFgsLAxcVGesuvu1XZTtMw15FtRcWY6WT2dtnudg8ec-PN2-virRyHiGSV79pZNuC5vy9QEERhX/s640/Rainy+day-8265394.jpg" width="640px" /></a></div><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">This one looks rather good in B&W but the colours are so attractive I decided to stay with colour.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">We've jumped back from Richmond and Twickenham in November, and are revisiting Central London in August. The weather is (it seems to me) a bit better now than it was then - well sort of, plus a few "Ah, well, Yes, if that's what you want to says" thrown in.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">Anyway; a nice touristical snap showing from right to left, the Ministry of Defence, Old Scotland Yard (the Police HQ before they built New Scotland Yard) the new parliamentary office buildings and then of course Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament themselves. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">The wide angle lens has given it all a bit of a curve, but who cares!</span></div>Chuckeroonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06933397626094422959noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8674906358747778592.post-833331429348530822011-11-02T14:47:00.000+00:002011-11-02T14:47:47.532+00:00Mud, mud......- # 136/2011<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh99QNtwKjNmgH2MsVv8KGjBeIKBolR9pZ2NdGm7xMlBFByUyiu40Ebu2PDpPUt3O0GnIWM0V_fB0Pm6yKA1F-nmTNqYZjEIFNtKQkImRilf1Hyj73k27FYvrGZ908W9sZUMt1iSgTfWi98/s1600/Mud%252C-295662.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480px" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh99QNtwKjNmgH2MsVv8KGjBeIKBolR9pZ2NdGm7xMlBFByUyiu40Ebu2PDpPUt3O0GnIWM0V_fB0Pm6yKA1F-nmTNqYZjEIFNtKQkImRilf1Hyj73k27FYvrGZ908W9sZUMt1iSgTfWi98/s640/Mud%252C-295662.jpg" width="640px" /></a></div><br />

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">In stark contrast to yesterday's image of quiet Twickenham we have this view of the modern architecture in the new development called More London close to Tower Bridge, in the centre of London. </span></div>Chuckeroonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06933397626094422959noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8674906358747778592.post-33282618448477180802011-10-31T15:07:00.000+00:002011-10-31T15:07:50.774+00:00Twickenham riverside with nice sky -# 134/2011<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9WQII0KMl9WFzScBuwwFHylz1wYw09s73EIBNJMGoSFmx5BU9D11OlofJnDb7nXAkqZU5IoBsinZoH7Xz2CMH4uZrD4dIA2laKZgX7vyGlhVBG1YpdT_TFg6X9ITVCMo5KLhdgdHwMTZJ/s1600/River+curve-295671.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640px" ida="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9WQII0KMl9WFzScBuwwFHylz1wYw09s73EIBNJMGoSFmx5BU9D11OlofJnDb7nXAkqZU5IoBsinZoH7Xz2CMH4uZrD4dIA2laKZgX7vyGlhVBG1YpdT_TFg6X9ITVCMo5KLhdgdHwMTZJ/s640/River+curve-295671.jpg" width="480px" /></a></div><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">Yesterday I heard on the BBC News a report about a Dutch farmer who is starting to export camel's milk ice cream to Britain. The reporter tasted it, declared it very good, with its own unique qualities that made it recognisable and highly acceptable, and the farmer said that it is essential for the camel to be happy. "A happy camel gives plenty of good milk". Unhappy camels do not. So that's good news about the farming method.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">This ice cream, in the photo, was made from buffalo milk. I tried it several weeks ago. It's also very good. It has a very substantial constistency and a fully rounded flavour that is not overpowering - a fullish start with a light finish might be a good description (if my memory serves me well). It leaves you well satisfied but not over sated.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS;">I liked it so much that I actually tweaked the sky in the photo to enhance the image of the ice cream!! ;-) So let's give it more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!marks.</span> </div>Chuckeroonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06933397626094422959noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8674906358747778592.post-37568697982719377122011-10-29T10:47:00.000+01:002011-10-29T10:47:55.592+01:00Sunlight through trees - # 132/2011<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc5aGn0x3KYdGIHaPdrTIE1DaWSC_JiEJeQvfFJ3Elh7sevEgnhBnCbPGHLAHF_9D4wFxiSQEBDnduVphSZgd7JGob8FTxfDpb2R3B9xaI9Ge1Hgnio2WVy9EsPKuTMCxQ1kcOFdqWV-dy/s1600/Sun+thru+trees-285650.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhc5aGn0x3KYdGIHaPdrTIE1DaWSC_JiEJeQvfFJ3Elh7sevEgnhBnCbPGHLAHF_9D4wFxiSQEBDnduVphSZgd7JGob8FTxfDpb2R3B9xaI9Ge1Hgnio2WVy9EsPKuTMCxQ1kcOFdqWV-dy/s640/Sun+thru+trees-285650.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">I know it's hackneyed - everybody does one at this time. But it's nice to see. The sun cutting through the trees on a brilliant Autumn afternoon in Richmond Park: no shafts of light created by mist or smoke, or points of light created by using a very small aperture, but pleasant shadows.</span></div>Chuckeroonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06933397626094422959noreply@blogger.com1
