Suburban sundown - Modernism! - # 09/13

Suddenly I understand what cubeism, and the 1920s were all about. Why has it taken me so long? These two were put up in the '60s. I did not like them then, and I still don't, because I always felt they are out of context for what they are, where they are. But after snapping them carefully with my new super-wideangle lens, just before sundown, I suddenly appreciate them - but a only a little bit .

  1. The progress made in housing of all kinds is absolutely stunning.

  2. Yes, you really do capture the essence of the art form in this.

  7. These buildings often come out better on photos than in reality! Also, you can cut the rest of the landscape, to which they fit in, more or less!

  8. Not the structures but your capture of them that has created a wondrous image. They are still ugly building but you have turned the subject around to your advantage capturing a gorgeous photograph. I will still maintain it is the person behind the camera who thinks the image, with a nod to the new lens. Have fun with it.

  9. Modern brutalism....not my favourite "look" either. I can understand why so much of the UK ended up concrete and pebble-dash after the destruction of WW2, but look forward to the day they are replaced by something else!
