Towards The Hill - # 89/10
First, I should thank those of you who so kindly replied to my message on yesterday's posting.
Today, let's continue the very simple return to old fundamentals. This is the view towards the famous Richmond Hill as seen from the footpath alongside the old St. Peter's Church, which dates from Saxon times. A Christian church has stood here for about 1,000 years, and even before that men were dwelling around about close to the river and on the heights above. Even 400,000 years ago during the interglacial Paleolithic period the precursors of modern man were right here.
I like the view for the rooflines and of course the Autumn colours enhance it.
For the technically minded, the photo was taken on the Olympus E3 using the remarkably sharp and clear Olympus 50mm f2.0 lens.
Remarkably sharp and clear indeed. Thanks for the reminder of how steeped in history this place is. Isn't it amazing how the actual location of places of worship remain the same over centuries and millenniums despite the nature of the faith evolving ?

ReplyDelete@FF....more interesting than a bit of maintainance scaffolding is the house at the extreme right. If my orientation is correct that is the house of J.M. Turner and here http://www.shafe.co.uk/crystal/images/lshafe/Turner_Richmond_Hill_on_the_Prince_regents_Birthday_1819.jpg is the view of Richmond Hill he painted. It's almost exactly the same today.

ReplyDeleteBonjour Chuckeroon, j'ai été absente bien longtemps pour cause de venue de ma petite fille chez nous. Et oui c'est la vie qui va, nos ancêtres ont foulé le sol où nous marchons, les feuilles des arbres tombent, les enfants grandissent et ont des enfants à leur tour.
ReplyDeleteTu es seul à présent alors que tu avais à te soucier de ton épouse, ce n'est pas un soulagement, juste quelque chose qui arrive et à laquelle on doit faire face du mieux qu'on peut, sans se plaindre.
Mais on a tout de même de quoi se plaindre et il faut du temps pour arriver à un nouvel équilibre qui ne fasse pas disparaitre ni oublier ce qui a été pendant si longtemps...
J'aime beaucoup cette image pour tout ce qu'elle suggére en plus de ses belles couleurs du ciel et de la végétation d'automne. Le portail à pousser donne sur une jungle qu'il faudrait traverser pour monter vers ces habitations accueillantes. Ou bien il suffirait de prendre le chemin sur la gauche, ce serait plus simple ?
