Innovative and positive business solutions for difficult seasonal problems - # 105

The week end's coming up, so there's an opportunity to invite my readers to enjoy a virtual pint of Young's bitter with me in the White Cross. Young's is a very old, family owned, London brewery with a fine reputation. The woolly ram is company's ancient sign.

But first, look closely at the enlarged photo, and notice how high the door is. The river often floods over the bank at high tide. Instead of deciding that this would ruin business, the builders decided to raise the doorway. The pub is well worth a visit. (I'm sorry about the building work on the paving.....you'll find much better photos elsewhere).

  1. Chuck, I can't imagine the river getting so high!
It would be so fun to enjoy a pint in that nice pub with so great company as yours! ;)

  3. No dam project planned, like the Three Gorges?

I have been up the Thames a few times (beautiful), but not to this place.

  4. I was also struck by the number of weeds growing in the mortar joints bewteen the stone. Nice photo. Interesting narrative.

I have celebrated this day, Mother's Day in my country, with a magazine cover for my wife. I hope you can see it.

  5. Glad to see the place is being appreciated and loved by many.

If this were in NYC, it would have been torn down and made into a condo with a Starbucks cafe in the lobby.
