The Himalaya Palace - # 239

Continuing or little "sidestep" up to the immigrant settlement of Southall -we discover the breathtaking Himalaya Palace Cinema. The 1930s cinema was recently restored and is now the ideal place for "Bollywood" movies. Currently showing is "Marigold - where East meets West".

  1. Great shot of the restored cinema. Did it orignally have the tiles and dragon-looking decorations?

About Mt. Hood (thanks for looking at my blog!), I Googled and read just a bit--it's a stratovolcano, not an active one thank goodness. I suppose I could have said I never thought I'd live within sight of volcanoes! On clear days, we have a distinct view of Mount St. Helens from my mother's bedroom window--that's the one that erupted May 18, 1980, and still vents steam and ash now and then.

  2. That is a beautiful cinema.

They did a good job with the restoration.

  3. That poster for Marigold looks more Hollywood than Bollywood, don't you think?

  4. I now found two specialised shops for Bollywood movies, within 2 minutes walk from where I live (and there is no important Indian popluation around)! The success involves not only the Indian population!
    The cinema looks very nice!

  6. Himalaya Palace Cinema in Southall was damaged by a fire. Since it was Grade II listed building, it was restored to its former glory with specialist help and a grant of £113,500 from English Heritage in 2001.
