Pause in service
Hello, this is Christopher, Stuart's son.
The Richmond upon Thames Daily Photo blog will be taking a short break.
My father had a nasty fall yesterday, slipping on some black ice. He will be in hospital for a while and then home for lots of rest and physiotherapy for a broken shoulder, hip and femur.
I know that he enjoys all the support and encouragement he gets from those of you who follow his blog.
If you feel like leaving some words of support, please do so - he will read them as soon as he is back online!
Christopher
Oh my! That's awful....
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your photos so much, as they often remind me of my expat days living in Richmond.
I sincerely send my best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Get well soon, Stuart. May you have a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteThat's really bad news. Chuckeroon best wishes and hope you will get well soon.
ReplyDeleteWow! Hope you will recover soon!!
ReplyDeleteWhat bad news!! Get better soon, we miss you!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for you. I wish you soonest recovery and will miss very much your fantastic photos. Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear this bit of bad news. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!
ReplyDeleteOh no!! Here's to a quick recovery!
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays from a reader in Texas who doesn't get to visit Richmond often enough, so these photos help fill the gap.
You silly old bugger - what are you doing to yourself??
ReplyDeleteSheez - you've done a good job of it!
Those are important bones you've broken!
I hope they've given you lots of drugs to help with the pain and you pass through the worst of it in a lovely haze.
Sending you lots of healing vibes across the oceans.
I'm so sorry this shitty thing has happened to you.
Get better soon.
L.
Hello old sparing partner. Letitia alerted me to what you have gone and done to yourself. Drugs for that sort of thing give me the irrits. However, a nice double-malted soothes the pain.
ReplyDeleteTake care, y'hear!
Thank you for letting us know, Christopher. And Stuart - rest up and get well.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you feel a bit better after the break Stuart.
ReplyDeleteIt’s that time of year again! I’m doing the rounds and apologising for my complete failure to more regularly offer comment on everybody’s incredible efforts for the year. I know how hard it can be to keep up with the daily grind of everyday posting, and want to thank you for your efforts.
I especially want to wish festive greetings for all from down here at [nearly] the end of the world, the bottom of Tasmania.
So, if you could delete whatever is not applicable, I’d like to wish you a very pleasant/merry/happy/wonderful/safe Amaterasu; Ashurall; Beiwe; Choimus; Christmas; Dazh Boh; Dongzhi; Goru; Hanukkah; Hogmanay; Junkanoo; Karachun; Koleda; Lenæa; Meán Geimhridh; Modranicht; New Years; Ras as-Sana; Rozhanitsa Feast; Şeva Zistanê; shōgatsu; Summer Solstice [if you're in the Southern Hemisphere]; Sviatki; Winter solstice [if you're in the Northern Hemisphere]; Yalda; Yule-tide; Ziemassvētki; and Коляда!
With a hearty three cheers from Kris, Jen, Henry and Ezra!
Oh my goodness! Julie alerted me. That must have been one hell of a fall to have broken your shoulder, hip and femur. Am so so sorry. What a nightmare. Get well soonest...
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us know, Chris, otherwise we will be wondering worth.
ReplyDeleteWell, first thing first, take care and get well soon. Back on camera when you can. Well Chris, you can fill the gap if you would like. We will very much welcome you.
Hi Stuart! Come on, we are in no age to have accidents, I told you... Now, seriously, follow the rules, recover soon and come back to us; we'll be missing you!! Dirty ice!!
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile take my X-mas present: blogger friendship wishing you all the best!
Best wishes for a speedy heal! Come back soon! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteAmatamari - Italy
Hope you'll get back soon and in good heath!
ReplyDeleteMy best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I read about your fall on Jilly's blog. It sounds like a nasty one...were you distracted by photographing? Doesn't really matter how, but now how soon you can be up and about. It is my hope that the pain you are probably now suffering will diminish so that you can start on the road to recovery. My thoughts are with you, especially for a speedy recovery...as speedy as your body, will and determination will allow. This is truly a memorable holiday for you, so in that spirit I will wish you a good one despite your current condition. Get well!
ReplyDeleteSome of us occasionally need a 'break' from blogging but this is not exactly what you had in mind, I suspect. May your healing go as smoothly as possible. Best wishes to you from Vermont!
ReplyDeleteOh my dear friend. I am so sorry to hear about this. I'll be checking on you from time to time. You take good care of yourself. We're all thinking about you.
ReplyDeleteV
I have made a blogging pause during the holiday season, but Virginia alerted me! What happened to you Stuart is too stupid and bad, but (almost) all accidents are stupid! This sounds painful and it may take a little time before you are fit again; at least you will be! Maybe in time for a new Menton trip ... or let's say that we will wait for you? Take care and do your best to have a fairly Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteJilly alerted me to the news - looks like you've a good family there to help nurse you back to health - nasty icy stuff here to - take your time and get well soon - all the best from us up North.
ReplyDeleteAhlala ! Stuart !
I am sorry to hear you had a bad fall. I hope you mend quickly, take care.
ReplyDeleteDear Stuart,
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear about your bad fall. I hope you are not in too much pain and manage to keep the spirits up.
There's a bunch of people out there hoping that there will soon be another Menton adventure but before we even start thinking of that, I wish you a speedy recovery.
Thinking of you with all my heart
I'll do like Cergie and send you a hearty kiss on the cheek, French style !
Nathalie
Stuart - the blogsphere is just not the same without you!!!
ReplyDeleteGet well soon!
You're in my thoughts and prayers, across the pond and beyond!
*Feliz Navidad y Prospero Ano Nuevo*
Oh geez, that's just awful. My prayers will be with you for a speedy and not-so-painful recovery. Rest and heal well.
ReplyDeleteHi Chuckeroon, I learned about your fall via Virginia's blog, where Julie mentioned it. (Word gets around on this here internet thingy.) From the comments here and from glancing about your blog, I take it you're a man of good humor. I think that's going to work in your favor.
ReplyDeleteSix degrees of separation is narrowing. Julie actually was alerted by Letty whom Petrea also knows.
ReplyDeleteLetty is blogging again? Chuckeroon, miracles happen.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon so that we can enjoy all those exciting photos we love so much. From the news reports here in Australia we are seeing the UK as I have not seen it before. Maybe Christopher can take a few shots for your blog.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas & good wishes for a quick recovery in 2010. Irene
Christmas Eve Morning: I decided to visit again to greet you again, and I hope that you have had a restful night, without too much pain and discomfort. I'll be thinking of you during the holidays!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas! I suppose this will be one to remember for all the wrong reasons. Hopefully you'll be back on deck before too long at all!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Sunshine Coast Daily Photo - Australia
I came by to see what holiday delights you would show us... So sorry to hear about your tumble! I wish you a speedy recovery and a happy 2010!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your fall... but here's hoping you mend up in due course and keep on with your blog. I'm just a lurker who checks in for those wonderful photos and the succinct commentary of the places that you seem to make so inviting.
ReplyDeleteMy sister-in-law slipped on Thanksgiving, on a perfectly flat kitchen floor... (tripped over the open dishwasher door). She broke her shoulder blade in 3 and shattered her arm too. But she's recovering now... as I hope you do.
:0)
It's Christmas Eve here. I've got you in my thoughts and prayers Stuart. A difficult time to be in the hospital, but know we are all thinking of you and your family!
ReplyDeleteV
I shall pray for your Father's speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a merry Christmas and a wonderful new year!
It is truly a pleasure to be associated with you!
Stuart, best wishes for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteChristopher, thanks for the update.
Just checking in and hoping you are home or will be soon. You know you really should have read the manual... ...as you are always telling me!
ReplyDeleteHi Stuart and Christopher.
ReplyDeleteHeard the news from Jilly.
All the very best for a speedy recovery from Sally in Sydney.
Wishing you a very sppedy recovery and lots of rest!
ReplyDeleteChristopher, I wonder, if you are reading these comments, if you may be able to give us an update on Stuart's progress, please? Is he comfortable? When do you expect him home? That sort of thing. It would be very much appreciatedf. When I was in London in September 2008, I had a wonderful afternoon wandering through Richmond with Stuart and photographing Richmond Park and the meanders of the Thames. He was most generous with his time and his humour was a joy. I did so much enjoy the get-to-gether.
ReplyDeletePlease give him my kind regards
I'm back to check on you Stuart.
ReplyDeleteI hope Christopher can give us an update soon.
Lots of love from down south
Hi Stuart! Hope things are improving! and you may enter 2010 in better shape! Wish you all the best for the New Year!!!
ReplyDeleteChuckeroon, Take care of yourself. I'm wishing you a speedy recovery. Thank you for all of the beautiful photography you share with us, it's a highlight of my internet time. Hang in there! Sending warm healing vibes from California.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear the news. Get well soon. After seeing all of your posts, we visited Ham Ho. last visit to London. Had a great time. Do continue after mending.

Stuart, I hope you are doing well now! I continue to keep you in my prayers and hope that you recover soon!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very happy and prosperous new year!
Update - I managed to speak to Stuart in hospital. He's got metal plates in the various parts he broke but happily isn't in any real pain. The problem is he can't support himself. He is now able to sit tho for a short while, once someone has got him up but of course it's v tiring. Mending of the broken bones and physio-therapy is going to take a long time. He has read everyone's message as Christopher, his son, printed them out for him and he's so moved by the outpouring of concern from his friends in the blogging community and says to tell you that it means so much to him.
ReplyDeleteHe has no idea how long he'll be in hospital but hopes, when he feels a little stronger, to have his laptop by his bed. I have to say he sounded in good spirits, thank goodness. Will report back if I have more news and please know Stuart will read all the comments left here.
Thanks, Jilly.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like he really took a beating. It also sounds like he's a man with a positive attitude. Amazing.
I signed up for the RSS so I'll know when Stuart posts.
If I have noted things correctly, today is your birthday! I take the opportunity to express my best wishes, but more especially of course for your quick reestablishment!
ReplyDeleteI have some news given by Jilly and Richard and know that this is not easy! What can I say? Courage ... and I’m sure you have it!
Thanks to Peter for the heads up on your birthday. Hope it is a good one and that perhaps you are home by now. I"ve a card in the mail. I"d probably do better dropping it out the plane window when I fly over on Thursday! Well we won't get to be bar flies this time but my next trip, you must must join us.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
V
Thanks to Jilly for the update on your health and to Peter for breaking the news about your birthday - Probably not your best birthday ever considering the circumstances but I do hope that you are in good spirits and the body will heal quickly. Thinking of you fondly.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon!
Same here, Stuart, though belatedly. Regards and affection for your birthday. I, too, await the time when you can manage a computer again. That at least will keep you engrossed. Hopefully, you will have a stockpile of images to tide you over.
ReplyDeleteSpirits up, young man!
Thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteAre you sick of watching telly yet?
I imagine that's about all you can do.
It must be very disappointing for you that "Neighbours" is on summer holidays at the moment.
Sorry for having missed the birthday date; but hope you had a happy day and that things are gettiing better. According to Jilly it seems you're recovering well; keep a good mood and courage. It surely helps!!
ReplyDeleteCheers and see you back soon! All the best,
Gil
Hadn't realise it was your birthday, Stuart - sure the next one will be better!
ReplyDeleteUpdate: Stuart says he is making good progress but no weight bearing till Feb 3. He hopes to be home soon but will be totally confined to one room.

ReplyDeleteoh no... just catching up having been away and then plunged back into work...
ReplyDeleteI do hope by the time you get this you well on the road to recovery..
get well soon
T
Hi Stuart! I on't know what happened to my last comment here after the update from Jilly. Anyhow, hope you're feeling better and sorry for having missed the birthday date...
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile a new blog is waiting for your full recovey: Blogtrotter Two! Hope you enjoy at least as much as the previous version and look forward to reading your comments when you come back! All the best!!!
Gil
Stuart,
ReplyDeleteA good time was had by all in Paris. We did have a few sips of champagne you know and maybe you can join the happy bloggers next time. I hope you are feeling much much better by now and maybe get that laptop cranked up so you can stay in touch soon.
Take good care my friend.
V
Just a little "hello"! I get some encouraging news from Jilly, Richard...!
ReplyDeleteChuckeroon update: Chuckeroon is now home from hospital - 2 days ago - but confined to one area and not allowed to do anything that is weight-bearing until the 4th February. Then he'll have an xray and hopefully will be able to start therapy which will last six weeks.
ReplyDeleteHe hopes to have the laptop set up by his bed eventually.
I hear from Jilly that you have made the transition back to your own house. That is good news.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon. And remember to watch out for that ice.
Hello - I'm glad to know that Stuart is doing better now! Thanks to Jilly for the update!
ReplyDeleteI do hope that he gets out of hospital soon, into the confines of his home, where I'm sure recovery will happen much faster!
Meanwhile, I continue to keep him in my prayers!
Dear Stuart,
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of you today. I hope that one day soon, we can all have a wonderful blogger meeting and maybe I'll get to join you all . I'd just love that. I hope you are on the mend. Best, best wishes,
V
I learn from Jilly that you are now back home! Understand thus that things are going better and better. Maybe soon the force and the courage to work a little with your PC (laptop?)? Anyhow, the essential thing is your quickest possible healing!
ReplyDeleteHello Stuart
ReplyDeleteI gather either you or Christopher are collecting these comments now. I would like to know how you are getting along if at all possible.
My email address is jstorry@tpg.com.au
Kind regards
