Old tricks & new ways to turn a penny - # 81

Warmer, sunnier weather has encouraged and enabled traders to make productive use of the space in front of their shops. The Natural Cafe (Post # 31) has set up some tables and started to promote their delicious rustic bread specialities. The pavement is narrow and the road is busy, so I'm sure that there's a delicate balance of things to settle to make it possible and successful in our modern, regulated, society. It's an enjoyable and welcome new sight on the street.

  3. I just noticed. In the photograph the man is wearing rubber gloves to keep from transferring germs when he handles the bread.

But he is handling money with the gloves on and money is supposed to be the most disease ridden surface that people can touch with their hands.

  4. Quite right, Abe! It's clear that this EU driven health and safety "fantasy" is somewhat out of hand. I'm not against health and safety, but in Europe it seems to have been driven to ridiculous lengths where even the safetymen are starting to say "No, that's not what we mean!"

  5. I love this part of city life - walking to the vendors, buying what you need from different spots! It's a lost art

Thanks for visiting my Chandler, Arizona blog and for the welcome!

  6. Love this. I hope the tables can stay and no local law comes in to stop it.

    The bread looks delicious.
