The other sentinel - # 09/114

Another! This time the goose is replaced by a little boy. How things can change within a matter of minutes.

I never tire of this scene. The shape of the white cottage and the way the brick house peeps through the trees fascinate me. We can probably say that the pond on Ham Common, after hundreds of years, has never looked more attractive than it does today. These qualities are in fact man-made, thanks to the love and care of various people and years of scientific and accademic effort to understand the improvement of wetlands, install drainage pipes, manage plants and handle so many other "urban issues". It's a great outcome after a lot of effort. A couple of hundred years ago it was more or less a village dump.

  1. Wow! It is so rare that one can find a place in nature and it can be said to have been improved with time. I am glad that you have found such a spot and can share it with others!

  2. Hi Stuart!
Great to see you back to colour! And to two fabulous shots. It even seems that summer arrived in England... ;))

Blogtrotter is back to the «urban jungle», which Reykjavik is far from being... ;)). Enjoy and have a fabulous week!

  3. Marvellous. I loved the photo before but I love this much more. Not because of the child (which is delightful of course) but the whole photo is framed differently or perhaps cropped differently. I really don't know if you cropped or not.

This pleases my eye more than the other. Do you have a preference in terms of framing, perspective? Both beautiful of course.

  4. @Jilly......I think that I also prefer this one. The brick house provides an attractive "peek-a-boo" vision in both, but the landscape perspective with the white cottage added in seems to balance and fill out the scene much better. I shot the scene slightly "too wide" to allow for post-processing, and took a tiny smidgeon off the right and about half of the grass foreground has been cut out. I also "cooled down" the overall colour to make it slightly more blue.

  5. Hi Stuart!
Everybody in vacation? Can't believe I'm the only one working and blogging... ;))

Blogtrotter is now showing that Reykjavik is not entirely grey... ;)). Enjoy and have a fabulous weekend!

  6. Could you get the goose and the boy in the photo together?
Preferably the goose chasing the boy.
