Stating the obvious - # 09/14

Isn't it funny how local Councils are always looking for more and more innovative ways to spend our local tax money?

I snapped this "innovative idea" at Teddington Lock.

Those who know the place will agree that between them the Local Council, The Port of London Authority, The Department of the Environment, The Health and Safety Executive, Transport for London etc etc have been vying with each other over who can put up the most signs trying to tell us what we must and must not do, and how terribly dangerous this place might be if we even dream of going near it! The result is a complete mess of "signage", the curse of our civilised urban society.

By the way: Suburban sundown hasn't finished, but you will have noticed I'm resting (no postings for this past week). The weather and the sunlight must be right - and at the moment they are not. Also the mode and the inspiration must be right. At the moment they are not.

  1. Are you getting "finicky" on us? Perfect light, perfect conditions, perfect mood, perfect attitude. Why you're starting to act like a photographer for pete's sake!!! :) And would I try to hoodwink you about my fair city? Oh there's an underbelly for sure but I don't have the nerve to show it yet. Should I????

  2. I had to laugh at your "innovative idea" image. Local Councils excel in out doing each other on ways to waste cash.

  5. That sign is hysterical! Ah-ha, waiting for the moment, eh? It will be at 4.52 p.m. on Tuesday next at a rendevous that will be revealed to you in a puff of smoke that will come through your front door. Make sure that camera is ready.

  7. The setting makes for a nice image though -- I like the blue palette.

  8. You should do a feature on the most useless cycle paths in the neighboorhood!

There are many which are a waste of money, are not helping cyclist or are provoking a conflict with pedestrians...

  9. Signs are because we live in a litigious society and councils are sued unless they warn especially about the most obvious of things.

  10. That is hilarious. Fair enough if it was at the TOP of the stairs, but at the bottom...
