Suspended - #103/10

Friday I went to London.  Here's my interpretation of the "London Eye" - the Big Wheel on the South Bank erected for the Year 2,000 celebrations and still going strong, earning a fortune for it's owners.  It really is the finest way to "see" the whole of London.

The Wheel just begs to be photographed. This time it was the clean forms of the gondolas against the open sky that attracted my eye. 

London from Richmond Park- # 08/33

Richmond Park is high on a plateau and London sits down in the London Basin. I thought you would like to see this classic view from one of the favourite vantage points in the park. The extreme telephoto setting scrunches it all together - we a looking across about 13 miles/20 km distant. You can see the "London Eye", the big wheel which is in the West End (the City of Westminster) opposite the Houses of Parliament, and behind (almost as if they are close by) you can see the already "iconic" Gherkin tower and the mass that makes up the the City of London (the financial district). There's more to the left and right. I'm trying to get a decent night time wide angle shot, but weather conditions must be perfect.

One for Cologne - # 08/16

So this one is dedicated to Germany (a country I know well) and Cologne. It is the support structure for the London Eye. I read that Berlin is about to open a bigger wheel, and soon Dubai and Singapore will have gigantic wheels that will make ours look tiny.

April wrote a very downhearted comment on the decay and the vandalism suffered by German Railways. Germany is not alone in this! What's wrong with Europe? Was it always so bad? Or have we been living in a short period between 1945 and 1965 when things were in fact NOT normal?

So the question is: What's wrong with the support structure of European society?
