London from Richmond Park- # 08/33

Richmond Park is high on a plateau and London sits down in the London Basin. I thought you would like to see this classic view from one of the favourite vantage points in the park. The extreme telephoto setting scrunches it all together - we a looking across about 13 miles/20 km distant. You can see the "London Eye", the big wheel which is in the West End (the City of Westminster) opposite the Houses of Parliament, and behind (almost as if they are close by) you can see the already "iconic" Gherkin tower and the mass that makes up the the City of London (the financial district). There's more to the left and right. I'm trying to get a decent night time wide angle shot, but weather conditions must be perfect.

  1. Beautiful view! Have to go back to Kew and Richmond my next time in London...
The picture of the young lady is gorgeous, and the Goat Wharf stop is noted! But the memories of Dietrich or better, more recently, Hanna Schygulla, on "Vor der Kaserne vor dem großen Tor stand eine Laterne, und steht sie noch davor..." were stunning! From Hanna, however, I prefer this
    Have a great week!

  2. The London Eye on this picture looks so faded, almost like a ghost... beautiful :)

  3. Had no idea you could see London from Richmond and I've been there enough times! What a shot - that distance - incredible.

  5. Fabulous photo! I enjoyed two rides on the London Eye on the same day, back in June, 2001. Brilliant!

  6. Yes, a fabulous view of London. (I got "lost" here, attracted by GMG's comments and spent some time listening to Hanna Schygulla etc...)

  7. It's a good view, but I liked your closer, B+W version better
