Fun in the night - # 63/2011

I've already mentioned the how the Old Town of Menton lends itself to night photography. One evening I went out with Jilly of Menton DP and we wandered about practicing with tripods and ISOs and exposures and white balances and all those other engagingly exciting things that go with night photography.

The pleasing tonality of this scenes goes without saying, but the really totally exciting thing is the spaghetti of electrical wiring and plumbing above the steps in the doorway. If anything sums up France, this is it!! Weirdly ingenious and successfully functional in spite of itself and its quirky character.  (Well, aren't we all a bit weird?)

  1. I wish mine were as good as this! I've a ton to learn about night photography but your lessons were really helpful. Hopefully I might get something tonight as I'm going to one of the restaurants we went to at Place du Cap.

  2. La balance des blancs est parfaite, on ne se croirait même pas la nuit. Ce serait un merveilleux décor pour un opéra (le barbier de Séville) seulement il faudrait enlever les câbles, tu as raison...

  3. @Cergie...I was thinking of Carmen. The naughty girls at the cigarette factory fight off the guardsmen who try to stop the riot and push them off back down the stairs.

  4. So, you're strolling in the Côte, no wonder you don't care of Amsterdam... ;))
Anyhow, enjoy and have a superb weekend!!

  5. Well - you might be...(a bit weird) but some of us are the full quid!

    I LOVE this photo.
All the make-do bits and pieces next to the beautiful details - I especially love that pipe to the right of the first doorway - it appears to have no real purpose.

  6. Nice photo Chucker - the builders of Menton really need a rap on the knuckles for not foreseeing the requirements for gas, electricity, phone, fibre-optic cables etc etc

  7. Very fun that you met Jilly of Menton CDP blog! I really like this photo even if all the wires make me a little uneasy.
