Summer cloudscape - # 09/120

It's dramatic and quite attractive when it appears like this, but on the whole I am totally fed up with this so-called Summer. Today, the flat grey featureless cloud and the rain make it even worse. I have a painting on my wall showing the coastline of Northern France. The clouds look very similar in that picture. I wish Mr. Sarkozy would keep his weather to his side of the Channel.

Clear signs of Spring 4b - # 09/47

A big change of mood, but only tiny changes in time. This image was taken a few moments before yesterday's. In that time the rapidly moving grey clouds (building up on the right) swept across and inspired me to convert the second image into the dramatic B&W event you saw yesterday in # 09/46. I could not have achieved the same effect using this sparkling record of a delightful Spring day.

Clear signs of Spring 4a - # 09/46

The rising angle of the sun begins to bless the northern hemisphere after a rather grim winter. The very clear light and the changing season bring dramatic skies and cloud effects that delight the eye. The large trees are still bare skeletons, the shrubs are greening up.

This is a long winded way of saying: "Bet you didn't expect this for a Spring shot!" The lighting effect was briefly quite dramatic and then passed on, carried away by a brisk breeze. I couldn't resist it. This is my vision of that moment.

The very edge of the weather - # 08/257

Mariners and those who live in wide open spaces may see this often, but it's rarer in the smaller more contained horizons around here. Looking up I was suddenly surprised to see this clear difference between the weather I was getting and what was being enjoyed not very far away.

Take a balanced view of things - # 08/47

There's always a nice shot, even on grey, damp, apparently featureless days. Coming up over the crest of a slope on Richmond Hill I saw "the Hotel", "the Tree", and "the Church Tower" (lower down) - a nice threesome: I was in the right position to see the symmetry.

Cloudscape- # 340

1st Jan 2008 has dawned grey and wet, fairly mild, but with a promise of worsening weather as the week progresses. We may even have snow down here in south-east. This will improve the photography opportunities outdoors. If not, I shall have to find some nice museums and architectural interiors.

At least these clouds made a pleasant pattern as the sun tried to break through over Richmond Park.

I wish you all a peaceful 2008. (Camera: Olympus C7070 WZ)

Cloud cover - # 203

Rainy days are back in Richmond. To my mind this snap of the cloudscape is very pleasing (but only so long as it does not go on for weeks on end without relief).

It will be a week before I know whether or not the 10 days worth of posting photos locked in my laptop wil be released.
