Mr. Fox is late coming home - # 08/96

The meadows are jam packed with spring flowers. This is a "good" Spring.

This morning I stopped to snap the wild flowers in the ha-ha outside Ham House and spotted the fox. It's about 08.55, so he is late returning from his night-time hunt.

I hardly had any time to set the camera, so the image is all rough and fuzzy. But there he is - just one of our local foxes.

  1. I can't believe you can see a fox in the daytime where you live. I don't think it would often happen in France...

  2. Foxes make me think of how they were imported to Australia for the joy of fox hunting and the environmental damage they did there.

  3. He looks fine in the field - I was less fond of his cousins when they used to play in my garden at 3am though! They make such a racket!

  4. I almost missed him, as I was too busy looking at all those lovely flowers.

  5. Definitely a what-have-we-here thumbnail image. A lovely scene.

  6. I have to say that I don't think even I would have converted this to B+W - it would have worked but you would lose that soft, impressionist flower meadow feel. Composition is striking and unconventional as well. I'm actually not sure about the vermin - it is a nice talking point and documentary aspect, but I'm not sure it adds to the photo. However maybe if the fox wasn't there you wouldn't have taken this particular shot

  7. Walking along the Thames path a few weeks ago towards Ham, a fox was actually walking with me. I have to say I was slightly wary and relieved when some dogs came the other way and the fox decided to go another direction. Maybe that fox you photographed was my walking companion!
